------------------------ | Crosspad Upload Client | ------------------------ To use the upload client: ========================= 1.) First check that the IBM Ink Transfer program is currently running (check your system tray). 2.) Plug your IBM Crosspad into the appropriate COM port. 3.) Using your pen, push the menu ink well (the 2nd leftmost one) and then choose yes (the checkmark ink well) when asked "Upload Ink?" 4.) The IBM Ink Transfer program should upload your Notes and then the Crosspad Upload Client should startup. -Once in the Crosspad Upload Client, you can choose to create a New Folder to upload notes to. -Choose your notes by clicking on them. The highlighted notes are the ones that are currently being queued for upload. To choose multiple notes one at a time, hold down ctrl. To choose a range of notes-- for example notes 1 to 3, first click on the note 1 and then hold shift and the click on the 3rd note. -Each note is timestamped -After you have choosen the notes you want to upload, click on "Upload". You should get confirmation that the notes have been uploaded. Notes that have been uploaded are grayed out. -In addition you can bookmark folders you frequently upload to. Select the folder, go to the favorites menu and choose "Add Favorite" -You can then view your notes on the Internet at: http://guir.berkeley.edu/projects/notepals/demos.html Grouping feature: ================= You can now create groupings of notes. This is best illustrated by an example. During the course of the day John Doe takes three different "groupings" of notes-- school lectures, work meetings and random doodles. Before John starts his school lectures, John Doe will draw a straight line on the top of the first page of his notes for the school lecture, push the keyword ink well on his crosspad and circle that straight line. Now that John is done with his lectures, he goes to his work meetings. John knows he is starting a new group, so on a new blank page, he draws a straight line on the top of the first page of his notes for a work meeting. In effect, all notes BEFORE that line are grouped (thus, school lectures have been grouped). All notes AFTER the line constitute a new group. John begins his random doodles in a similar manner. Since this is the last group, this is the last keyword he will enter to indicate groupings. When John uploads his notes, he will conveniently find his notes grouped and easily selectable through the "Group" menu. So the rule is, when creating a new group, draw a line on top of the first page of that group. Uninstallation: =============== Simply click on the uninstall icon in the NotePals for CrossPad v1.0 folder. This will not, however uninstall JRE (if it was installed). If you wish to uninstall it, go to control panel->add/remove programs and choose the Java JRE Standard Edition v1.3 Known Problems: Please do NOT enter notes while in Tutorial Mode. If you have inadvertently done this, start up IBM's Ink Manager and manually open up the file you uploaded and save the document again (yes, it does seem redundant). Then try opening the file. There are some intermittent date bugs that occasionally prop up-- dates are sometimes off by a month or so. Bug Reports: Please state the exact nature of the bug and email the notepals list notepals-list@bamboo-cay.cs.berkeley.edu or me, makoto@uclink4.berkeley.edu -Norman Su Copyright 2000 UC Regents
