NotePals - Download
NotePals for the IBM CrossPad
Updated Aug. 30th, 2002:
- The new NotePals Web application is now up at http://notepals.berkeley.edu.
Notes from the previous system are transferred over, along with
their respective project paths. If you had an account in the old
system, email Jonathan Tse at jontse@cs.berkeley.edu
to get your new password.
- You MUST download the new uploading client below in order to
upload notes to the new system. Like before, they are available
with and without JRE.
- If you do not choose "Launch Upload Manager" when you upload
your notes, they will be placed in the "My Notes" collection by
default.
- Send all questions, comments, and bug reports to jontse@cs.berkeley.edu.
Java Crosspad Upload Client Requirements:
Installation Directions:
- Make sure you have installed the IBM Ink Manager prior
to installing the upload client. A CD should've been included
with your IBM CrossPad that contains the ink manager. If you are
missing the software, you can click on the above link to download
it.
- Download the installer for Windows 95/98/NT/2000:
If you aren't sure whether you have JRE (Sun's Java Runtime Environment)
or not, download the later file-- it will automatically determine
whether you need JRE and install it if neccessary.
- Run the installer, reboot and carefully read the README
files included for directions on how to use the client.
- After the installation, whenever you upload notes through your
CrossPad, the upload client will start up and display your notes.
From here, you can upload notes to NotePals.
Uploading Notes:
-
Connect your CrossPad to your computer, upload the notes and the upload
client should start. You can select notes one by one by holding CTRL down, or
select a range of notes by choosing the first note, hold down SHIFT and choose
the last note within the range.
-
Alternatively, you can go to the group menu and choose groups of notes to select.
-
Finally choose a folder to upload to. You can create new folders as well.
Then click on "Upload", a confirmation should appear that your notes have been uploaded.
-
There is a bookmark feature, similar to IE's favorites. You can bookmark
folders you often upload to.
Using the CrossPad to Group Notes:
-
Take notes as you normally would with the CrossPad, except now you can use
the KEYWORD function to create groupings of notes. Everytime you want to create
a new group indicate the start of the group with a long line on the top
of the page. Each group must start on its own page with a line on the top. After
drawing a line, click on the keyword inkwell and circle the line. Groups are
used to make uploading easier for you.
