Geney

A shared information application for Palm Pilots

This work investigates a new interaction paradigm for handheld computing: the use of multiple interconnected handheld devices to form a virtual shared workspace. Given the importance of rich, social interactions of children, we wanted to explore ways to effectively support children's collaboration on handheld computers. We built our collaborative system on top of Geney, an educational software research project at Simon Fraser University. Geney is a Palm OS application for teaching middle school students about genetics; kids try to produce fish with specific traits by "Marrying" fish.

Welcome to Geney!

Biologists need your help. They want to know how a particular species of fish evolved. They have given you a pond to store some fish and you can move them to other ponds or marry them with other fish in your pond. Once in a while, a Pond Inspector will visit your pond and check on how things are going. Use your knowledge of genetics to be the first one to arrive at the species that the biologists are looking for.
