BusBuddy

A location-enhanced, real-time mass transit navigation assistant for mobile phones

A major barrier to mass transit ridership is the need for highly specific, time-sensitive delivery of real-time and static schedule/status information (e.g. when does the next bus arrive, what was the last departure, etc.). The difficulties involved in filling this informational need are compounded by the fact that information sources are rarely available when riders need them most (when they are on the go, away from a computer).

BusBuddy aims to help fill that information gap by providing real-time, location-enhanced information accessible in an easy-to-use, easy-to-navigate application designed to run on the most popular portable computational device in the world: The cell phone. We are currently building a working prototype using information from Seattle's Metro bus system.
