My interests include practical applications of ubiquitous computing devices and information retrieval, as well as information display/navigation design on small devices.

Current Projects

BusBuddy: BusBuddy is a mass transit navigation assistant designed to run on top of cell phones. It combines static and real-time information about the Seattle Metro bus system and presents it in a way that is (hopefully) quick and easy to navigate within the constraints of a cell phone.

Previous Projects

Semantic Email: As part of the Mangrove project, we are exploring the notion of semantic email. Semantic email aims to make many of the emails that we interact with in everyday life both human- and machine-understandable. Ultimately, this will simplify many common email related tasks such as collecting information from a group of people, handling schedule/event information, reminding others about previous unanswered emails, and answering frequently asked questions.
