My research interests lie in the intersection between computer science, design, and psychology. I am principally interested in understanding how different emerging technologies (e.g. the Internet, wearable devices, ubiquitous computing) enhance or degrade the quality of social relationships and how to design technologies keeping these relationships in mind. In a previous life, I was interested in temporal database research.

Current Projects

VSD in Industry: Microsoft Research - Employee Knowledge Network: The Employee Knowledge Network is a tool being built to increase group awareness, leverage expertise, and create a community amongst engineers at Microsoft Research. A well-known stumbling block in employing such a technology is the adoption of the technology. Therefore, we are investigating how paying close attention to users’ values throughout the design process could improve adoption of this tool. This project is a part of the "Value Sensitive Design in Industry" strand of the Value Sensitive Design ITR Grant.
