Human Centered Design & Engineering
@Capt_Swing
I am a PhD Candidate in the department of Human Centered Design and Engineering. I am affiliated with Dr. Mark Zachry's Communicative Practices in Virtual Workspaces lab, where I research the way people interact and the social roles they inhabit in collaborative online creative environments (like Wikipedia). I am also involved in the Engage project, where I work on the design and evaluation of novel tools for increasing online deliberation and civic engagement. The overall aim of my research is to develop better tools and evaluation methods to facilitate online collaboration and communication.
I have a (modest) professional background in usability testing and user-centered design, and additional experience in project management, technical documentation, web publishing and quality assurance testing. My undergraduate degree is in philosophy and classics, with a focus on political philosophy. In my (ever-diminishing) spare time, I am a voracious and omnivorous reader and enjoy running, kayaking and a good game of racquetball.
I was the DUB lecture coordinator during the 2010-2011 academic year.
