@gabecohn

I am a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. I am funded through the Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. I work in the interdisciplinary Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) Lab and am advised by Shwetak N. Patel, who is a joint faculty member in both CSE and EE. I work in both the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering departments, and am a member of dub, an interdisciplinary group at UW that focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

I am particularly interested in embedded systems and mixed-signal circuit design in ubiquitous computing applications; however, my research interests are broad and include Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp), Embedded Systems, Circuit Design, Low-Power Wireless Networks, Novel User Interface Technology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Architectures and VLSI. Through my research, I collaborate with Desney Tan (Microsoft Research Redmond), Dan Morris (Microsoft Research Redmond), Brian Otis (UW EE), Matt Reynolds (Duke ECE), Steve Hodges (Microsoft Research Cambridge), and Beverly Harrison (formerly Intel Labs Seattle).

Before beginning my graduate studies at the University of Washington, I received my B.S. with Honors in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 2009. At Caltech, I conducted research in RF and microwave antenna design and modeling, networking, and detecting election fraud. In addition, I conducted summer research at the University of Washington in antenna design and modeling and signal processing.
